In Taiwan, the deaths from traumatic accidents was more than 7,000 people in 2016, and the establishment of trauma centers may reduce the death toll by at least 15-20%, meaning 1,050-1,400 lives can be saved.

 

According to the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s (MOHW) trauma classification policy, Taiwan’s hospitals will be divided into two categories: those with a traumatic center and those without. Medical institutions without a trauma center will unavoidably be excluded from emergency medical networks and trauma treating systems in all regions. In the future, clients will be restricted to elderly people in the community. As a medical center and university hospital, we should not serve only as a community hospital. We should as a destiny for patient evacuation from other hospitals in central Taiwan.
