Biomedical electronics is hailed as the most crucial star industry of this century. For this reason, China Medical University (CMU) and National Chiao Tung University (NCTU) formally signed a memorandum of understanding in December 2008, with the main aim of making up for the lack of clinical medical experience of NCTU as it does not have its medical school through collaboration between the two parties. Therefore, NCTU’s technical engineering fields such as electrical machinery, information, and materials and biotechnology are combined with CMU and its hospital’s specialties in biology, basic medicine, clinical medicine, and life science for interdisciplinary integration, in an effort to pursue the forward-looking development of the fields of biomedicine and technical engineering.

 

 

An interdisciplinary research center, the Research and Development Center for Biotechnology not only assists with the planning of MD/PhD programs and biomedical electronics credit programs for training doctors in the field of medical electronics research, but also is dedicated to the development of humanized medical care services and diagnosis and treatment instruments, with the intention of producing innovative medical care service models and diagnosis and treatment electronic medical apparatus. It is hoped that more humanized electronic technology will be brought into the fields of clinical medicine and home care, which will effectively improve the overall quality of the medical environment and benefit more people.
